What a season! Brewood CC are Staffordshire League Champions and contemplating the challenges of life in the Birmingham League next season. As the leaves turn brown and the bats and nets are put away, we look back on a season of all-round achievement at every level of the club.
As well as the Firsts landing the league title in a nail-biting last-day finish to the season, the Seconds claimed runners-up honours in their league. The Thirds won their league and emulated the Firsts in being unbeaten all season. The Fourths finished a strong third in Division 5 to complete a fine showing of strength in depth by a club bursting with pride at its achievements. Of 86 matches played, Brewood teams lost only 12 in the season. To put the icing on the cake, the Firsts completed the double in taking the knock-out trophy too!
Brewood CC has adopted a policy of opening up to the public in recent years and a warm welcome is extended to all who have an interest in this most esoteric and beautiful of sports. If you want to play – at almost any level, support or just watch in the sun with a glass or two of the legendary local Morton’s Ale, you are most welcome. Though if you want to see where the true strength of the club lies, come along on a Monday or Tuesday evening in the summer and see the juniors learning the game.
See you next season then – in the Birmingham League!
